Bill Baxtresser, a Chicago area freelance musician, is a member of the Gaudete Brass Quintet and holds the position of second trumpet with the West Michigan Symphony starting in the 2008 season. Bill received his Bachelor’s Degree in Trumpet Performance from Western Michigan University in 2007, where he studied with Mr. Scott Thornburg & Dr. Stephen Jones.
Originally from the Detroit area, Bill has performed with the Detroit Civic Orchestra where he studied with Ramón Parcells, principal trumpet with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. At that time, Mr. Baxtresser was also member of the Detroit Civic Orchestra Jazz Ensemble under the direction of the legendary trumpeter, Marcus Belgrave.
Bill has been a member of the New Music Project, a contemporary music project that promoted the commission of new compositions, as well as presenting a Latin American inspired concert with the Millennium Chamber Players.
Bill’s other endeavors include participation in the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute at the Oberlin Conservatory, studying with Barry Bauguess & Bruce Dickey, as well as Lake Placid Institute for trumpet performance in both Jazz and Classical.
